Professional child performers and athletes have specific challenges that most typical Middle School and High School student don’t encounter. While pursuing a challenging curriculum full of college preparatory courses, child actors must also make time for auditions, acting workshops, voice and dance lessons and even travel when they land a part away from home. A child actor MUST put their career first in order to succeed and beat out the tough competition; and must also make time to complete required core and elective courses. In short, our kids need quality education that caters specifically to them and their demanding schedules.

100% Online Classes

The Bridge School works just like a traditional high school, except everything is online. Students can login and access their courses from home, a library, a coffee shop, or anywhere there is computer and Internet access. Courses that a student is required to take are dependent on the student’s prior transcript. All of our courses are set up on a 120-day calendar schedule, similar to a typical semester. However, students can start the course any day of the year, and they have the ability to move at their own pace and can take up to six months to complete a given course.

NEW TALENT: Child Actor DUSAN BROWN Cast as Young Ed Charles in Legendary Entertainment’s “42!”

The eargerly anticipated Jackie Robinson biopic “42,” is the story of a brave young man who became a hero both on and off the field. The film stars heavy-hitters Harrison Ford, Chadwick Boseman, Jon Bernthal, T.R. Knight, Nicole Beharie and has now cast 10-year-old, child actor Dusan Brown (an HMB favorite!) to play the character “Young Ed Charles.”

Dusan’s mother Joyce Kelly-Brown tells HMB, “His call back was with Director Brian Helgeland, who took home an Academy Award for Best Screenplay for L.A. Confidential (1997). So we feel special that Dusan was hand-picked by him and can’t wait for Dusan to work with and receive direction from such an experienced filmmaker.”

Production will begin May, 13, 2012, in Birmingham, Alabama.

Brown, who hails from Chicago, Illinois, is a quadruple threat – he acts, sings, dances and is …wait for it…a wrestling champion! This multi-talented youth has guest-starred on several prime time television shows including “How I Met Your Mother,” “Big Bang Theory,” and “Criminal Minds.” He toured nationally with Disney’s North American Tour of ”The Lion King,” as Young Simba and is one half of the musical duo The Brown Boys; the other half being Dusan’s older brother Dante, a multi-talent in his own right.

The Browns now split their time between Chicago and Los Angeles. Joyce explains that her husband Tracy Brown, the family business, their home, family and friends are still in Chicago, “…while the boys and I are out here [in Los Angeles] further exploring their dreams of becoming working actors and seeing where God leads us in this journey.” Fun fact: The Brown boys actually attended school in the same Hyde Park neighborhood where President Barack Obama once resided!

As for formal training, acting classes and coaching, upon the trios arrival to Hollywood in August of 2010, her sons’ agent and manager suggested to Joyce that she not enroll them in any ongoing training, but instead utilize occasional coaching when needed. Brown said, “They reiterated after I asked again, that ‘They’re fine just how they are… organic, real kids,’ and if they weren’t immediately getting call backs, then we’d consider another plan.”

Following the team’s advice, Dusan was coached once for a feature film back in August of 2010 by Eric Stuart before he went out on tour with Disney’s The Lion King. Dusan, only 9 at the time, toured from December 2010 until July of 2011. Upon returning to California, he coached for another feature film audition with Carnetta Jones.

Kelly-Brown is a devoted parent and shares, “All else and everything that he’s booked thus far has been as a result of whatever it is that his agents and manager saw in him upon our arrival [to L.A.] and my fine tuning. I’ve never considered myself their coach, but I guess that’s my title for now, amongst several others, of course… while [my sons] still affectionately think I know everything.”

Both Dusan Brown and his brother Dante are represented theatrically by Coast to Coast Talent Group. Their management is Luber Roklin Entertainment.

42 Synopsis

Only one number has ever been retired by every team in all of Major League Baseball. This number is 42. It was, of course, the number of Jackie Robinson (Chadwick Boseman). 42, the film, tells the story of a remarkable man and a remarkable time, when a world war had just been fought to end tyranny, but baseball was still segregated. To Branch Rickey (Harrison Ford), the general manager of the Brooklyn Dodgers, this was an unacceptable situation. Vowing to bring an African-American player into the big leagues, he chose college superstar athlete Jackie Robinson and thereby set into motion a story that would captivate the nation. The film perspective is through Jackie’s eyes as he and his young wife Rachel (Nicole Beharie) travel first to minor league spring training in Florida and subsequently on to the major leagues. Jackie faces racism and scrutiny on the public stage and triumphs in spite of the opposition. In becoming a leader of the Brooklyn Dodgers, he blazes a trail for Hank Aaron, Willie Mays and all the African-American baseball players who came after him. He also was an inspiration to fair minded people everywhere. Last but not least, he thrilled fans of baseball with his hitting, his fielding and his electric style on the base paths. 42 is the story of a brave young man who became a hero both on and off the field.

Legendary Entertainment has successfully partnered with Warner Brothers on The Dark Knight Rises (2012), Jack the Giant Killer (2012), Clash of the Titans & Wrath of the Titans (2012), and Hangover (I & II). 42 is a solo venture for Legendary, as is this portion of their production slate: Godzilla, Warcraft, Seventh Son and Mass Effect.

42 will debut April 12, 2013; timed to coincide with Major League Baseball’s Jackie Robinson Day, held every April 15 to commemorate the date in 1947 when Robinson broke the MLB color barrier by playing his first game with the Brooklyn Dodgers.

Nick Cannon, the adorable host of “America’s Got Talent,” recently told People Magazine he will “absolutely not” let his twins (with wife Mariah Carey), Moroccan and Monroe, follow in their parents famous footsteps.

Cannon said: “I just want them to strive for something greater than entertainment. I’m one of those believers in teachers, professors, heart surgeons. That’s what I’m rooting for. If I could get a scientist, that’d be amazing.”

UPDATE: When asked recently if he would like the adorable tots to audition on America’s Got Talent!, Nick said: “Absolutely not. That’s my personal feeling. But if you asked my wife, she would say, ‘Yes! Let’s sign them up next year!’ The thing that is great about this show is that you’re giving people who would never have an opportunity at stardom an opportunity. As a parent, and maybe because I’m a new parent, I am so protective and so sensitive and would never want anyone to judge my child.”

Nick concedes that if showbiz is something his twins really want to do when they’re older, he wouldn’t stand in their way. Cannon said: “You catch me in 10 years and [if] my child is an amazing singer or drummer and says, ‘Dad, I want to do it,’ of course I am going to support whatever they want.”

CASTING NEWS: Child Actor GATTLIN GRIFFITH Negotiating for Lead Role in Jason Reitman’s LABOR DAY

According to the Hollywood Reporter, it appears child actor Gattlin “Getty” Griffith will join Kate Winslet and Josh Brolin in Jason Reitman’s Labor Day. HMB readers may recall that Reitman, Oscar-nominated for both Juno and Up in the Air, has been seeking actors for this role for sometime. Reitman is said to have chosen Griffith, but as of this post the deal has not closed. No word yet as to whom will play the role of Eleanor.

Gattlin Griffith, 13, is a hard-working child actor, having previously appeared as Angelina Jolie’s abducted son in Changeling (2008); as a young Ryan Reynolds in The Green Lantern (2011); Couples Retreat; The River Why; The New Daughter and Blood Done Sign My Name. He has also appeared in numerous TV shows: Unhitched (2008), Cold Case (2007), How I Met Your Mother (2007), and Monk (2007). Griffith has also wracked up an impressive commercial resume having worked for Disney Parks, Mass Mutual, Burger King, Yamaha and Home Depot.

According to his bio on TheRiverWhy.com, Griffith enjoys soccer, gymnastics, horseback riding, swimming, football and performing his own Stunts.He can been seen next in the “suburban nightmare” movie, Under The Bed.

Reitman has tried for months to find the right child for the role, which sources describe as the center character of the story.

In the script, written by Reitman but based on the novel by Joyce Maynard, a depressed single mom (Kate Winslet) offers an escaped convict (Josh Brolin) a ride in her car. As their relationship evolves, the action is portrayed as seen through the eyes of Winslet’s child (the role Griffith is in negotiations for).

Griffith is represented by Wendi Greene at Paradigm and Susan Curtis of Curtis Talent Mangement.

Paramount and Indian Paintbrush are backers, with Helen Estabrook, Lianne Halfon and Russell Smith producing.

Jessica St. Clair (“Bridesmaids”) and Lennon Parham (“Accidentally on Purpose”) star as Jessica and Lennon, best friends who live on opposite sides of the country with the men in their lives. When Jessica is overnighted divorce papers, Lennon convinces her to return home to Brooklyn and back into the apartment they used to share. It doesn’t take long for the girls to fall into old habits: movie marathons and late night girl talk sessions – none of which is good news for Lennon’s live-in boyfriend, Joe (Luka Jones, Upright Citizens Brigade). Daija Owens, 8, is a native of Los Angeles, who’s had a knack for performing since a young age. Since Daija was three, she’s expressed herself by being unintentionally comical. Her funny facial expressions have always piqued the curiosity of her family who never know what she will do next to make them laugh.

Owens began her acting career at age six when she landed a role in her grade-school production of “The Wizard of Oz,” in which she played one of the Munchkins. When she’s not acting, Daija enjoys spending time with her two older brothers and her sister, making new outfits for her dolls and playing with her friends. This talented newcomer is represented by Pamela Fisher at Abrams Artists Agency.

Best Friends Forever is produced by Universal Television and American Work, Inc. IN THE NEWS: THE HUNGER GAMES World Premiere & Interview with Producer Nina Jacobson

I was able to attend The Hunger Games World Premiere in Los Angeles last week, which wasn’t only a great night but proved to be helpful insight for my (group) phone interview with Hunger Games Producer Nina Jacobson (Diary of a Wimpy Kid, One Day) this morning. More about the Premiere later.

The talented young cast of "The Hunger Games," in a recent Vanity Fair shoot, "have their feet on the ground," says Producer Nina Jacobson.

For those not familiar with Ms. Jacobson’s career, she’s one of a handful of powerful women (including Sherry Lansing and Dawn Steel), to have run a Hollywood studio, (Buena Vista Motion Pictures Group) and now helms her own production company Color Force, responsible for Diary of a Wimpy Kid, and it’s sequels.

Producer Nina Jacobson Won the Option to "The Hunger Games" when it had only sold about 100,000 copies.

After reading The Hunger Games books, Jacobson immediately connected with Katniss (admittedly her favorite character); however, she realized there were many potential pitfalls in bringing the epic story to screen. Jacobson was intrigued that Katniss enters the games “looking after her own,” and not at all civic-minded but evolves over the course of the story into someone who trusts and cares for others (like Peeta and Rue), transcending selfishness and ultimately reaching an ethical line she won’t cross regardless of the consequences.

Jacobson believes this theme of selflessness is a powerful one for today’s youth and following a month of discussions with author Suzanne Collins, optioned The Hunger Games. Remaining faithful to the story and not committing the sins of the capitol (Hunger Games speak for not glamorizing the voyeurism and violence) was Nina’s utmost goal. The project finally landed at LionsGate because the studio had what she calls “a focused development plate.” I personally love that she (along with Suzanne Collins, Gary Ross and the entire Hunger Games team) is adding a respectable heroine to our children’s cinematic library. “Young girls [as movie viewership] are a huge part of what makes a movie successful,” Nina says, “those who underestimate that [fact] do so at their own peril.”

When asked how the film differs from the book, she points out that we have more than just Katniss’ perspective in the film and that in order to streamline the storytelling some book characters lost out. “Poor Madge was thrown under the bus,” Nina recounts, noting that the impactful gift of the Mocking Jay Pin to Katniss is now Prim’s moment. She also relates that for purposes of time the focus was on Cinna (played by Lenny Kravitz) and not the entire squad of stylists. Other differences or substitutions include the film being shot on location in North Carolina (working as the Appalachian, the Reaping set, the Capitol and the Games) because the locales were “ridiculously perfect,” and of course there are the nice tax benefits the state offers.

Having accumulated a wealth of experience working in film and particularly with child actors, I wanted to know which qualities a producer of her measure looks for in young talent. “Naturalism and authenticity,” we’re her immediate answers noting that the last thing one wants a child actor to do is project “Look how well I’m acting!”

As the Producer of the Hunger Games, Jacobson says she was obviously seeking child actors with talent but also looks for kids (and their parents) “who have their feet on the ground.” She believes she was doubly fortunate with The Hunger Games young cast, as their performances were organic and natural and they all come from strong families.

The Hunger Games opens nationwide on March 23, 2012 which is in all likelihood the first of four films to be made based on the trilogy. The second film is tentatively scheduled to release Thanksgiving 2013.

About The World Premiere:

Jennifer Lawrence wowed at the world premiere of "The Hunger Games," wearing a Prabal Gurung gown, Jimmy Choo shoes and Jacob & Co. black diamond studs.

Held at the Nokia Theater in downtown Los Angeles, the movie’s red carpet was actually black and gold. Turns out this color combo was perfect for enhancing Jennifer Lawrence’s shimmering metallic lame Prabal Garung gown that was akin to a custom paint job on a race car and I mean that in the best way possible. She was hands-down the most gorgeous person, man or woman, at the event. Other folks we spied walking the red carpet and or milling about the theater were Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Miley Cyrus, Donald Sutherland, Gary Ross and Allison Thomas.

As I’m not a reviewer, here’s what I’ll call my “quickie recap:”

Teens will LOVE this film – the kids in the world premiere audience were screaming the entire time. The entire time. Did I mention, the entire time?
Read the books first – it will enhance the film for you and help the details make more sense.
Jennifer Lawrence is a wonderful actress and nails the character of Katniss (I originally pictured Hailey Steinfeld in the role but Lawrence owns it).
Other solid performances in The Hunger Games include: Cinna (Lenny Kravitz), Effie (Elizabeth Banks) Haymitch (Woody Harrelson.) and Josh Hutcherson (as Peeta Mellark – although I still think he was terribly miscast as the love interest). Sutherland is typecast as annoyingly evil (which works) & Stanley Tucci is campy fun as Caesar.
For my taste, there was money missing onscreen in terms of production value (I had a couple of “Last Airbender” flashbacks) but the average 13 year old isn’t going to notice that. Director Gary Ross is faithful to the book, condenses a few scenes for streamlined story-telling, omitting only a few important moments.
Surprisingly not too dark or scary considering it’s obviously dark subject matter. The book was much more graphic.
The most honest and accurate review I’ve found is here (the written review NOT the televised morning show – those people are completely out of touch). But ultimately you the viewing audience decide the fate of the film – grab a box of popcorn, enjoy and let us know what you think!

She plays impeccably-groomed, wise beyond her years youngster Sally Draper on the hit television series, Mad Men, and some of Draper’s fashion joie de vivre has had an obvious effect on Child Star Keirnan Shipka. Dressed impeccably on every red carpet, the 12 year old Chicago-native admits to being fashion-influenced by her show, Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelley and the show Gossip Girl. She will no doubt be giving teen actor fashion champs Choloe Moretz, Elle Fanning and Hailee Steinfeld a run for their money in a few short years to come.

When Shipka was recently featured in the European magazine Grazia (Highstreet Edition) the internet was abuzz with talk that it showcased a too-mature looking 12 year old. I disagree. This is a child whom has always courted fashion, holds herself with grace and dignity and looks absolutely lovely in Grazia’s photos. Her favorite designers are Chanel and Burberry for crying out loud. There is nothing risque about either picture, and anyone saying as much is out of touch with today’s more sophisticated youth. It’s a fashion spread and that’s always going to call for a more “mature” look than say an editorial piece about an afternoon she spent at Chuck E. Cheese. Just remember, Kiernan doesn’t dress like this when she goes to set school (I hope.)

When WoodstockWardrobe.com asked Shipka last fall about winning her role on MadMen she admitted, “It was a really basic process. I saw a small description for a recurring character, I had 3 auditions, and then I got the call that the role was mine. All I remember is screaming in the car. It wasn’t my first role, but it was the first one with a chance for recurring scenes.”

In term’s of her character Sally Draper’s style Shipka says: “Sally’s style has pretty much stayed in the same theme, girly & preppy, throughout the whole show. But as she gets older, her style is becoming more mature. The wardrobe department spends a lot of time focusing on popular ‘60s trends for Sally, especially in the last few seasons.”

Her favorite red carpet ensemble thus far: The gold & metallic Balenciaga dress. "I loved the look and I felt really confident."

And for the big question, has the show influenced her fashion choices? “Yes, they really do inspire my everyday style. A couple of my dresses that I wear a lot are very Sally, with puckered waists that flare out at the bottom. I also really love petticoats. Basically, I adore the whole 1960s style. [MadMen] has already affected my style now, and I know it always will. On the set, I pass through the racks and racks of vintage garments, from gowns to the handmade pajamas. I get to see the behind-the-scenes of fashion, which has a huge impact on the way I dress.

The young actress’s guilty fashion pleasure? “I am constantly on gossipgirlfashion.net.”

CHILD STAR: “Slumdog Millionarie” Actress, Rubina Ali, Lands New Film Role!

Several years ago Rubina Ali, now 13, was discovered in abject poverty to be an actor in critically acclaimed, Academy Award-winning movie Slumdog Millionaire. Now Ali is set to star in a new film starring Anthony Hopkins,Lord Owen’s Lady, which is a love story about a young Welsh nobleman and an Indian woman.

Lord Owen’s Lady will commence principal photography in September this year in Britain and India. According to her management team, Rubina signed on to the project about 18 months ago. She will shoot for about three weeks in Shimla (northern India), Wales and London. Her salary will be more than 20,000 pounds or approximately $40,000 USD.

Rubina was only eight years old when she appeared in Slumdog Millionaire, which won eight Academy Awards in 2009.

Like several of the child stars in the film, she began life in a Mumbai slum and has experienced many hardships including, family disputes over her film wages and a devastating fire which destroyed her family’s Mumbai home. Sadly, the fire also took the dress Ali wore to the Academy Awards.

Former Child Actor & “How I Met Your Mother” Star, Alyson Hannigan “My Kids Won’t Be Child Actors!”

Alyson Hannigan, known best for “Buffy,” “American Pie” and “How I Met Your Mother,” was just 4 years old when she made her acting debut in a 1978 Duncan Hines cookie mix commercial, but her own kids will not become child actors themselves if their actor-mommy has any say in the matter.

“I definitely would want them to wait,” says Hannigan, who is due to give birth to a second child this spring.

“Saty [daughter Satyana, age 2] is sort of the prime candidate for acting … so hilarious and so expressive. Early on, I think she was just over a year and just starting to talk. She was in my closet and she was looking at herself in the mirror. She was really close up and studying [herself], and then she started to tear up. I was like, ‘Honey, what’s wrong?’ And she says, ‘Look, Mommy, I’m crying!’ I was like, ‘Oh no, we’re doomed,’ but she was so pleased with herself that she could make herself cry. So she’s certainly showing signs, but we’re going to keep her being a kid for as long as possible.”

Colin Ford, a child actor of movies, television and voice-overs since the age of 5, has recently enrolled with Oaks Christian Online School (OCO) to better manage his career and school aspirations. As most HMB readers know, Colin most recently worked along side Matt Damon and Scarlett Johansson (former child actors themselves) in the movie, We Bought a Zoo, and has another film coming out in November of this year, Disconnect, starring funny man and another former child actor, Jason Bateman. With voice-over work in Disney Junior’s Jake and the Never Land Pirates and other auditions and appointments, Colin was searching for a way to make the best use of his time.

Like most traditional high school students, Colin begins his day at 7:00 am and ends at 4:00 pm but instead of sitting in a classroom, Colin works completely online. He takes regular breaks when he knows his friends are available by phone. “This new schedule allows me to eliminate unnecessary time in the school day and complete my homework at the same time.” Colin mentions that he must be disciplined, but he no longer has three hours of homework at night. “During the first week of online school, for the first time ever, I was able to read a script all the way through in one evening,” Colin says, “My stress level has gone way down.”

Colin’s plans for college and interest in Christian education are a good fit with OCO’s college-preparatory curriculum and emphasis on spiritual life. “I like all my classes,” he says. Colin also likes to DJ, with about 27,000 songs on his computer, and hopes that working online will allow him to complete school work on set, work ahead when he knows he has other commitments and be able to be with friends and family more.

iCarly teen star and Celebrity Foodie Reed Alexander, 17, is taking his passion for healthy food into school cafeterias to motivate millions of kids to make healthy choices. Reed is best known for starring as the infamous Nevel Papperman on Nickelodeon’s No.1 rated comedy iCarly.

Reed has collaborated with the Alliance for a Healthier Generation, a non-profit organization founded by the American Heart Association and the William J. Clinton Foundation to reverse the prevalence of childhood obesity, to create four fresh and healthy school lunch recipes available at no cost to every school in the U.S.

The science-based guidelines, which meet or exceed USDA final guidelines released in January 2012, focus on increased lean protein, whole grains, fruits, vegetables and low-fat and fat-free dairy in addition to reduced total fat, saturated fat and sodium levels.

For all the 12, 13 and 14 year old girls who auditioned last week for Charlie Sheen’s new FX comedy series, Anger Management, (my own included by the way) the bad news is: someone else got the job. The ~~good~~ other news is: they cast 18 to play younger – which you could kind of guess would be the case based on the scripted material – hilarious but very mature.

According to DeadlineHollywood.com, they’ve cast Daniela Bobadilla age 18, to play Sheen’s 13-year-old daughter Emma. Per IMDB, Bobadilla was born in Mexico City, Mexico on April 4, 1993. She has been acting professionally since approximately 2009 and has appeared on TV shows Lie to Me, Oliver’s Ghost, Bucket and Skinner’s Epic Adventures amongst others. I just happened to catch her last week in a touching albeit brief portrayal of a young molestation victim on Desperate Housewives.

Wikipedia notes that Daniela was introduced to theatre in her middle school at age 11, and became involved in musical theatre. She has participated in over 17 theatre productions including Fiddler on the Roof (Chava), High School Musical (Gabriella Montez) and Wizard of Oz (Dorothy).

She was allegedly discovered by a Canadian talent Agent in a showcase acting class and immediately began auditioning for television and film. In 2008, she was discovered by Mexican/American comedian George Lopez who cast her as his daughter in “Mr. Troop Mom.”

In the anticipated Anger Management series Sheen portrays “Charlie,” a former baseball player with anger issues who winds up as an unconventional anger management therapist. The other leads in the series as confirmed earlier are Charlie’s therapist (Selma Blair), his ex-wife (Shawnee Smith) and his 13-year-old daughter (Bobadilla). Bobadilla, is repped by ICM and the Michael Abrams Group, and currently recurs on NBC’s midseason drama Awake.

The series will begin shooting in March, for a June 2012 debut on FX.

NEW TALENT: Child Actor David Mazouz Tackles a Tough Role in TOUCH

David Mazouz plays Jake, a mute child with an obsession with numbers and patterns which, if deciphered properly by his father (Sutherland), lead to worldwide human connections.

Kiefer Sutherland returns to primetime Wednesday in the Fox drama Touch, as the father of a child who has never spoken and doesn’t communicate in any traditional ways. Touch was created by Tim Kring, (Heroes).

Like the heroic characters in Hereos, in Touch Jake has super abilities only his are with numbers and patterns which, if deciphered properly by his father, lead to connections among people worldwide.

According to Kring, finding the right actor fir the part was difficult as the role requires an ability to affect the blank, isolated look often seen in children who have autism, yet also to suggest there is a lot going on behind the eyes.

Kring told the NY Times, “David is an extraordinary child. He is extremely focused, and you can see the internal life in him. He’s also very still. Most kids we auditioned, you’d catch moments here and there between their general fidgetiness.”

Jake is silent to the other characters but his thoughts are heard in voice-over. “Because we hear his internal voice, we have an understanding of just how intelligent he is, so we had to cast someone who fit that,” Kring said.

Mazouz is represented theatrically by Wendi Green, Paradigm, and Jeremy Apody, Abrams Artists, commercially. Prior to landing the role of Jake, David worked on episodes of Mike and Molly, Criminal Minds, Private Practice and the tv movie Amish Grace.

Kring and his team try to establish early on that, although Jake might look autistic, Touch is not about autism, and Jake’s condition is something else entirely.

“In the pilot, we were pretty set on trying to state that as early as possible,” Kring said. “Clearly, the autism community deserves to have champions out there, but, by the same token, we wanted to have the ability as storytellers to float above reality a little bit. There’s something special going on with this child — something metaphysical, almost supernatural.”

In the premiere, Sutherland finds his way to a some answers when he meets a character played by Danny Glover, who tells him that Jake essentially has psychic powers.

“Your son sees everything,” the character says: “the past, the present, the future. He sees how it’s all connected.”

Then he adds, “It’s a road map, and your job now, your purpose, is to follow it for him.”

It ‘s well known that Cindy Crawford (along with Stephanie Seymour, Linda Evangelista and Naomi Campbell) was Gianni Versace’s muse of sorts back in the day so this is a true passing of the high-fashion torch for the Crawford-Gerber household.

Kaia Gerber has just made Cindy Crawford a Momager by landing Young Versace's launch ad campaign. Who knew rocking socks with sandals could be chic?

“Like her mother, Kaia has a very special gift,” Donatella Versace said in a release to the press. “The camera really, really loves her. Having Cindy on-set for the shoot took me back to all the amazing Avedon shoots we worked on together. It was such a special treat watching Kaia walk in her mother’s footsteps!”

Cindy Crawford had this to say about her progeny:

“I’m so thrilled that Kaia was chosen to be part of the first Young Versace Campaign. I have so many fond memories of the times I spent with Gianni and Donatella. Famed Photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggot shot the campaign for the line which will debut during Pitti Immagine Bimbo in Florence. The line fits kids ages 0-12 and stays true to many of Versace’s signature themes like the iconic Greek key motif and Medusa head logo.

The small town of Pacashau, Georgia, has fallen on hard times, but the people are counting on the Divinity Church Choir to lift their spirits by winning the National Joyful Noise Competition.

The town choir has always known how to sing in harmony, but the discord between its two leading ladies now threatens to tear them apart. Their newly appointed director, Vi Rose Hill (Latifah), stubbornly wants to stick with their tried-and-true traditional style, while the fiery G.G. Sparrow (Parton) thinks tried-and-true translates to tired-and-old. Shaking things up even more is the arrival of G.G.’s rebellious grandson, Randy (Jeremy Jordan). Randy has an ear for music, but he also has an eye for Vi Rose’s beautiful and talented daughter, Olivia (Keke Palmer), and the sparks between the two teenagers are causing even more friction between G.G. and Vi Rose.

If these two strong-willed women can put aside their differences for the good of the people in their town, they—and their choir—may make the most joyful noise of all.

Keke Palmer, 18, is an award-winning actress and singer.

In 2005, at the age of 12, Palmer signed a deal with Atlantic Records. Her debut single, “All My Girlz,” is featured on the soundtrack to the acclaimed film “Akeelah and the Bee,” in which she also starred, opposite Laurence Fishburne and Angela Bassett. Ellen’s protege and You Tube favorite Greyson Chance, 14, has teamed up with the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) and singer/songwriter Shaun Barrowes to co-host and perform at the third annual SchoolJam USA finals event.

The event will feature a teen battle of the bands competition on Jan. 21, 2012 in Downtown Disney in Anaheim, CA, and Chance expressed his feelings on supporting such a worthy cause. Take a look at all the entered bands here!

Time magazine’s list of the 10 best movie performances for 2011 includes a South African girl, Khomotso Manyaka, cast as Chanda in the film, Life, Above All, based on the Allan Stratton novel “Chanda’s Secrets.” The film is about a young girl (Khomotso), living in a small, AIDS-infested South African township who struggles to maintain the façade of normality amidst crushing odds: her stepfather is an alcoholic, her newborn sister has just died, and her mother has been diagnosed with the AIDS virus. As Chanda’s mother’s illness becomes apparent, the community turns against the family, misinterpreting the disease as some form of retribution for their sins. Now 15, Manyaka was only 13 years old at the time of filming.

Khomotso Manyaka gives the performance of a lifetime.

Khomotso said of her performance: “I’m very proud of myself – 2011 was a great year.” She went onto reveal that the recognition makes her “happy” and “surprises” her because she “never knew I had talent.” After the film, she and her co-star and friend Keaobaka Makanyane received scholarships to the National School of the Arts.

Time Magazine says of Manyaka’s performance:

“Khomotso Manyaka was no Hollywood moppet, just a South African girl who had never acted, when director Oliver Schmitz picked her for the lead role in this starkly poignant drama about a family, a village, and a people devastated by the Aids plague.

“Given the challenge, Manyaka invested the part of Chanda, the sole strength of her ravaged clan, with amazing poise, delicacy and grit.”

“Life, Above All” and Khomotso’s performance particularly as she acts in almost every scene – have gathered several high-profile accolades. Last year, Khomotso received the best actress award at the SA Film and TV Awards, and in 2010 she won the best actress award at the Durban International Film Festival.

The film was also shortlisted by the Academy Awards committee in the category of Best Foreign Film.

When it screened at the Cannes Film Festival in 2010, “Life, Above All,” received a 10-minute standing ovation.

Actress and former child star Kristy McNichol, 49, has come out as a lesbian in an effort to help kids who are troubled by their sexuality and who are being bullied for being different.

The former child star of 1980′s “Little Darlings,” and TV hits “Family” and “Empty Nest” dropped out of Hollywood and retired from acting in the 90′s after being diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Now she’s reaching out via her publicist to announce her own sexuality in hopes that it will help bullied teens.

McNichol’s has been living with her partner Martie Allen for two decades and according to her publicist Jeff Ballard,”[She] is sad about kids being bullied. She hopes that [her] coming out can help kids who need support. She would like to help others who feel different.”
