There really aren’t any rules when it comes to the MTV Video Music Awards’s red carpet. Even Taylor Swift went against type and wore a long-sleeved romper by Mary Krantatzou’s Resort 2015 collection (worth taking a look) to the August 24th award ceremony in Los Angeles. Our regular young Hollywood crew did not attend in large numbers, but there were a few fashionable appearances. I can’t say that I loved them all, but we all know that MTV award ceremonies have their fair share of fashion missteps. I would like to add that I’m glad Kylie Jenner did not get caught up in a major wind gust with that high billowy slit, BUT I did love her hair and makeup. Perhaps my favorite of the night. Below are the looks from the under 21 crowd. My favorites, however, are at the bottom in the Over 21 (But Could Totally Pass as Teens) Crowd. Who was your best dressed?
Chloe Grace Moretz in Louis Vuitton
Fifth Harmony
Kylie Jenner
Kendall Jenner in an Alon Livnemesh top and trousers
Maddie Ziegler (Did you like what she and sister McKenzie wore to the TCA’s? They wore limited edition Walter Mendez dresses available online now)
Over 21 Honorable Mentions
While Lucy Hale doesn’t qualify for Young Hollywood in real life, her PLL character would. I love her 2nd red carpet outfit by Oscar de la Renta. The dress is fun, edgy and a great pop of color. It would be a perfect choice for one of our teen stars.
Another over 21er whose outfit I would totally style on a teen star (maybe Olivia Holt, Audrey Whitby or Petyon List) was YouTube star Ingrid Nilsen. The inverted ruffle of this 2-piece Christian Siriano ensemble took the look from potentially too tame for MTV to fun and young. Thumbs up!
