I’m not blind to the fact that my life as a Hollywood Mom comes with a few amazing perks, for which I am very grateful. Point in case, my daughter Jordan and I were invited to the First Annual Children Mending Hearts Style Sunday earlier this summer held at a private residence in Beverly Hills, California.  The event was in a word – Amazing.

Children Mending Hearts, (CMH), was founded by Lysa Heslov in 2008, to empower disadvantaged youth through educational and arts programs that build empathy and global citizenry. Through after school classes and arts exchange workshops, CMH actively engages U.S. youth in global children’s causes where they can positively impact the life of another child.

Hollywood Mom Elizabeth Blanchard and daughter Rowan Blanchard (Girl Meets World), Landry Bender (Crash & Bernstein) with her HM Amy Bender. Joey King (The Conjouring, White House Down) and my kidlet Jordan Bobbitt (The Next Dance) all took part in the CMH Style Sunday festivities.

Style Sunday was set-up on the grounds of a modern mansion in Beverly Hills as a shopping party extravaganza and the best part? 100% of the day’s proceeds of purchased merchandise at the event were donated to ChildrenMending Hearts!  Now that’s a reason to celebrate.

We brought our friends the King Family with us. Jordan and Joey had a great time (as you can tell from the photos), shopping, painting, shooting hoops, making videos, eating, hanging out with little Miss Trouble, meeting up with fellow child actors and more. I spent the most of the day with Joey’s folks, Jamie and Terry King, whom I adore and also caught up with several other Hollywood Moms like Amy Bender, mom of Landry, and met sweet Rowan Blanchard and her lovely mom Elizabeth Blanchard for the first time. She’s a great mom and a great lady. No doubt we’ll be hearing more and more about her and her adorable daughter in the months and years to come. I also ran into Cheri Steinfeld (Hailee’s mom), discussing mutual friends and fangirling a little on Cheri’s pinterest page. Cheri has an excellent pinterest page by the way – if you’re not following you’re missing out on some great holiday party decor & food photos. Disney Child Star Daphne Blunt was also there, but we never ran into her!

Many familiar celebrities were in attendance from music icons Quincy Jones and Jimmy Iovine, to sports stars Gabrielle Reese, celebrity designers Wendy Bellissimo, Cat Deely, Carter Oosterhouse, reality star Kyle Richards and bonafide Hollywood Stars Kelly Preston, Regina King, Blake Michael, Amy Smart, Hilary Duff, Kevin Zegers, Michelle Trachtenberg, Brian Grazer, Minne Driver, Topher Grace, Ed Begley Jr., Mary Lynn Rajskub, Clea Duvall, Jamie Chung and Bryan Greenberg, Liberty Ross, Ellen Pompeo, Holly Robinson Peete, Josh Gad and David Alan Grier.

All in all, it was a beautiful day with great people for an amazing cause. I can’t wait for next year! In the meantime, CMH Founder Lysa Heslov has sent out a call to action (below) and by making just a few small purchases through their organization we can help these kids in need.

SUMMER 2013

This summer, CMH is providing supplemental curricula to summer programs in under-served communities in Los Angeles.  CMH Global Arts Summer Session will again lead a summer camp version of our Global Arts After School semester program at theWatts/Willowbrook Boys & Girls Club.  This  session began on June 17th and runs through August 24th, 2013.  Multiple class levels meet twice a week to explore photography, fine arts, and fun global learning to hundreds of boys and girls ranging from ages 8-18 years old.

Also this summer, CMH Global Arts Summer Session will participate in Camp CoachArt2013.  We will be partnering with CoachArt to provide a global learning photography workshop as a fun activity in their week-long summer camp, July 22nd through 26th, 2013.  CoachArt provides lessons in arts and athletics for children with chronic and life-threatening illnesses.
FALL 2013
With Fall 2013 just around the corner, CMH Global Arts After School has plenty to be excited about as our program is expanding to 19 semester classes scheduled to be in session in the Los Angeles area.We are continuing our partnerships with the Watts/Willowbrook Boys & Girls Club as well as After School All Stars – Mulholland and Vista middle schools.  All three sites will continue with multiple classes, both the photography and fine arts curricula.
Additionally, the CMH Global Arts After School program will be starting at three new After School All Stars Los Angeles sites with multiple semester-long courses in both photography and fine arts at each location.Furthermore, we are thrilled to introduce two new partners this fall:  Communities in Schools (partner site is Clinton Middle School) and LA’s Best!  We could not be happier to implement the CMH Global Arts After School program at these wonderful new sites.  The program will launch with LA’s Best at multiple  locations in Los Angeles with various curricula offered at each.  Clinton Middle School will start with the CMH Global Arts After School Photography program.Lastly, exciting new steps for the program will be taken at a number of our partner sites this fall as we launch two brand new curricula:  Textile Arts and Anime!  The Textile Arts curriculum features Kenya as a new country of focus and exchange partner and the Anime curriculum focuses on Japan and will rekindle CMH’s partnerships there.
