At Christmas, I gave hubby (AKA the man who has everything) the iMainGo XP, a powerful, protective and portable speaker case for his iPad. It took all of 3 days before my soon-to be-teen daughter and notorious Daddy’s girl somehow procured this little beauty for herself. But who could really blame her? The new XP uniquely combines both style and function with its durable exterior and soft interior lining, features four premium high-output stereo speakers (for her head-banging tunes and numerous movies) with a proprietary digital amplifier to enhance the iPad user experience. The iMainGo XP is perfect for listening to music, watching movies or playing games for a full sound experience anywhere. I thought it would be a while before Portable Sound Labs could up the ante on the speaker experience, but here they go again and just in time for Valentine’s Day.

PSL has created the The iMainGo X speaker, an ultra-portable speaker system and protective case for your iPhone, iPod Touch or mp3 player. With knock-out sound, the iMainGo® X boasts a rechargeable lithium-ion battery, two headphone jacks and a daisy-chain feature. The sound quality is excellent and the volume is great for such a small unit. And best of all? It easily fits into your coat pocket for on the go listening.

Now the extremely generous people at PSL are giving away not one but two iMainGo X’s to our readership for VALENTINE’s DAY! All you need to do to enter is to “like” @PortableSoundLabs on Facebook and leave a comment Below as to how this device will help you!

My tween daughter Jordan and her friend Sarah pose with Lolita Girls at the Hello Kitty Launch Party at Forever 21 at the famed Hollywood and Highland Shopping Complex

Enthusiastic Hello Kitty fans pack Hollywood & Highland hoping for a chance to get into the Launch Party at Forever 21 Hollywood

Thursday night Forever 21 and Hello Kitty hosted a launch party for Forever 21 for Hello Kitty Collection in Hollywood. The dedicated fans of this clothing line launch were akin to fanboys at ComicCon.  Forever 21 customers flooded Hollywood Blvd., with the customer line then curling around into the Hollywood & Highland shopping complex all the way back to the escalators. It was truly a sight to behold.  As Hello Kitty & Forever 21 aren’t exactly focusing on my “mom demographic,” I brought along my tween daughter Jordan and her friend Sarah to gauge their take on the launch event and the clothing line.  Their overall review: Party Kinda Drab. Fashions Super Fab!

The launch party was hosted by Reality TV Child Stars Kendall and Kylie Jenner who were styled to perfection in a “Japanese Lolita meets Hello Kitty” mode.  They did several costume changes throughout the evening and impressed with every outfit. Full kudos to the girls’ stylists – they did a wonderful job.  If you can’t imagine Hello Kitty looking like runway couture, you’re not alone but I witnessed first-hand that it’s not only possible but absolutely adorable when pulled together by the pros.

The launch party was hosted by Reality TV Child Stars Kendall and Kylie Jenner

Stefanie Scott from Disney's ANT Farm

Other guests included Stefanie Scott of Disney’s A.N.T. Farm and designer Trina Tarantino.  As for the shindig itself, the biggest snafu was that the store was poorly laid out for a large party. Most of the new Hello Kitty fashions were packed together in the front of the store which also happened to be the narrowest portion of the room and the place where everyone (guests, employees, paparazzi, media and security) entered and exited.  So how did this translate to party-goers who wanted to shop and possibly buy Hello Kitty fashions? It was like watching people herd cats – no Hello Kitty pun intended.  If one more well-intentioned employee told us to “keep the area clear” I was seriously going to cough up a fur ball.

I never saw Hello Kitty, but the kids told me she was modeling fashions and milling about the store. Some guests (read not us) were able to indulge at the Hello Kitty Nail Art Station which included free nail art and full manicures.  Unfortunately it was all ready booked for the entire evening when we arrived at 7:15. A Hello Kitty Sweets Station displayed delicious mini cupcakes and marshmellow Hello Kittys on a stick.  Raffles were held for one-of-a-kind Hello Kitty fashions and Hello Kitty goodie bags – but we couldn’t get our hands on the elusive raffle tickets either.

Guess what we were able to do though?  After tuning out the “Clear the Area” mantra, we shopped, shopped and then shopped some more. The girls left the event with bags of clothes and were thrilled with their purchases: Hello Kitty Leg warmers, wallets, cardigans, tee shirts, socks, scarves, flannel pajamas, hair accessories and jewelry.  All in all not a bad way for a couple of lucky tween girls to spend a school night.

Look for these adorable and affordable Hello Kitty Fashions at a Forever 21 near you!

THEN & NOW: Former Child Star Hilary Duff Talks Growing Up Hollywood on PIERS TONIGHT

THEN & NOW: Former Child Star Hilary Duff Talks Growing Up Hollywood on PIERS TONIGHT

Posted on 25. Oct, 2011 by .

Former Disney Child Star, Hilary Duff, is pregnant with her first child, a boy. In a recent interview with Piers Morgan on his show PIERS TONIGHT, Duff revealed she one reason she does not want her son to have a career in show business is because she felt isolated as a child star and lost many friends due to her demanding schedule. Duff quickly rose to fame at 14 on the hit Disney TV show Lizzie McGuire.

The now 24-year-old told CNN talk show host Piers Morgan: “My sister (Hailey Duff) and I really showed an interest in performing and dedication, and [my mother] was like, ‘How can I tell my kids no?’ It’s the same as kids that are going into sports. Parents support them and push them.”

But despite admitting she wouldn’t trade her younger years for a different upbringing, she isn’t keen on her child following in her footsteps.

“I missed out on stupid things like passing notes in school and having a locker and riding the bus, I mean, really stupid things. At the time I felt, once I started touring… my life… was very isolated, you know? I lost a lot of my friends. I was on a totally different playing field than anybody else. And I grew up a lot faster, and I think that it definitely put me in a different place. But I wouldn’t trade it.”

Even with her view that it was a positive experience for her, Hilary doesn’t want the same career path for her child, stating “I don’t think there’s a way to stop it – I think kids know what they want but I just pray to God that’s not what he wants.” When Piers inquires as to why that is, Hilary bluntly states that today media intrusiveness has peaked with child stars and that the potential lack privacy is a strong concern. Duff said, “There’s such an obsession with people’s private lives, that I really don’t think was there before.” She continues, “It’s so invasive. It’s just a different business than it used to be.”

ABOUT SPY KIDS 4D:
On the surface, Marissa Cortez Wilson (Jessica Alba) has it all…married to a famous spy hunting television reporter, a new baby and intelligent twin step kids. But in reality, trying to mother Rebecca (Rowan Blanchard) and Cecil (Mason Cook), who clearly don’t want her around, is her toughest challenge yet. Also, her husband, Wilbur (Joel McHale), wouldn’t know a spy if he lived with one which is exactly the case – Marissa’s a retired secret agent.

Marissa’s world is turned upside down when the maniacal Timekeeper (Jeremy Piven) threatens to take over the planet and she’s called back into action by the head of OSS, home of the greatest spies and where the now-defunct Spy Kids division was created. With Armageddon quickly approaching, Rebecca and Cecil are thrust into action when they learn their boring step-mom was once a top agent and now the world’s most competitive ten year olds are forced to put their bickering aside and rely on their wits. With a little help from a couple of very familiar former Spy Kids, Carmen (Alexa Vega) and Juni Cortez (Daryl Sabara), and some mind-blowing gadgets, they just may be able to save the world and possibly bring their family together while they’re at it.

Jeremy Piven greets the Burks Girls at Spy Kids!

By all accounts, last weeks special pre-screening of  SPY KIDS: ALL THE TIME IN THE WORLD IN 4D at the Arclight Hollywood was a huge success!  SPY KID Child Stars Rowan Blanchard and Mason Cook were on hand to mingle with Hollywood Mom’s readership after the screening and thankfully, Hollywood Mom Elise Burks became an impromptu photographer catching her daughters Ariana and Anaiya with the film’s stars (like Jeremy Piven left) and other HMB families.  Everyone raved about the film and some called it the best film yet of the beloved SPY KIDS franchise.

Some other lucky HMB readers who attended the screening were HM Olivia Lopez and dd Natalie Lopez; HM Kathy Drelling Card and daughters Sophia and Simone; HM Dani with daughter Damoni Burkhardt;  HM Karean Chapman and her girls, Shayna and Mikayla; and HM Lilli Baur attended with son’s Niko and Caden Baur.

You're Cordially Invited!

As HMB’s editor, my daughter Jordan and I were thrilled to be invited to walk the red carpet and attend the world premiere of  “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” last weekend at the Magic Kingdom: Disneyland in Anaheim, CA. Hollywood Mom Blog was able to bring along some of our favorite child stars as personal guests, including: Brandon Tyler Russell (Smitty), Noah Ringer (The Last Airbender) and Landry Bender (The Sitter).  Also hanging with our group was actor Kevin Sorbo (Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, Soul Surfer) who honored his inner-child by dressing in full pirate regalia.  It wasn’t until much later that I realized Brandon Tyler Russell and Kevin Sorbo look an awful lot alike, and who knows? There might be father-son movie roles in their futures!

Brandon Tyler Russell talks to TMZ on the Red Carpet.

In short the red carpet was unlike any I’ve ever seen, much less that I’ve walked. It was as wide as a city street, black (in honor of the pirate theme) and several city blocks long.  We, along with the celebs like Johnny Depp, Penelope Cruz,  Steven Tyler, Emma Roberts, Teri Hatcher, Geoffrey Rush, Jody Foster, Ava Longoria, Jake T. Austin, Ashley Tisdale, Ian McShane, Martin Short, Kirstie Alley, Keith Richards, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson, Eric McCormack, Chelsea Kane, and Lisa Rinna, literally walked from the entrance at Downtown Disney all the way to New Orleans on the carpet. Screaming fans, at least 6 people deep, lined the carpet on both sides.  I was told some fans had actually been camping out along side the carpet all day to get the best seats for celeb sightings.

Disney-style theatrics started even before the film did. The theater was outdoors, with stadium style seating jutting out into the park’s pirate harbor. A tremendous movie screen perched right next to the docked pirate ship. The cast (Depp, Cruz, Rush, McShane) slowly came out and took their bows to thunderous applause – Keith Richards eliciting most of that thunder by the way. When it began to drizzle, I started to wonder if Disney had somehow magically made the precipitation appear to add to the overall highseas effect.  Looking around the audience I couldn’t believe the star power seated beside us on all sides. It was so star-studded in fact, that is seemed more akin to an awards ceremony audience than a premiere. The film itself was wonderful – but I’ll let you see for yourself when it opens this Friday.

Special Note: All purchased tickets benefitted the Boys and Girls Club of America and we were so pleased to see many of the Boys & Girls Club kids sitting in the theater with us that evening. [Update: the ON STRANGER TIDES premiere raised over $1 million for the Boys & Girls’ Clubs and that the special edition of the Pirate’s Booty snack we munched on during the premiere is donating to them as well.]

Special Thanks to Desiree Russell, Stacy Ringer and Jamie Malone for photos and for being fabulous!

See “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” in Disney Digital 3D™ and RealD™ 3D, May 20th through June 22 at The El Capitan Theatre.  This theater enhances the movie-going experience with a fantastic display of items actually used in the making of “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.” Among the items are ornate props, elaborate costumes worn by the cast, and set pieces from the film itself. The El Capitan will also commemorate the opening of “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” by offering each guest, while supplies last, a soft drawstring bag containing two “Pieces of Eight” tribute coins sponsored by Goldline International. These collectible alloy coins, designed exclusively by Disney for the El Capitan showings, have a look reminiscent of coins common to the period depicted in the film.  www.elcapitantickets.com

child hunger ends here

The statistics are alarming. One in four American children struggles with hunger.   According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, 17.2 million children are at risk of hunger across the nation in communities that include rural towns; suburban neighborhoods and urban centers – making it clear that hunger is a harsh reality for many Americans  A staggering 23.2% of US Children live in food insecure households with the gravest meal shortages occurring in Arizona, Arkansas and in our nation’s capital, Washington DC.

Food. It seems so very basic to most of us but here are the hards facts about food insecure households:

46% of the client households served by Feeding America food banks report having to choose between paying for food and paying for utilities or heating fuel

40% of client households had to choose between paying for food and paying rent/mortgage

34% of client households had to choose between paying for food and paying for medicine/medical care

To combat this epidemic, ConAgra Foods®, in partnership with Feeding America®, is asking us, the consumers, to take part in a new initiative to fight child hunger with their “Child Hunger Ends Here” campaign.  Child Hunger Ends Here brings together some of ConAgra Foods’ best known brands (Healthy Choice, Hebrew National, Marie Calendars) as part of the largest cause-marketing program in the company’s history including this weeks television special on NBC.

By following #ChildHungerEndsHere on Twitter during the broadcast, participants can ask questions from an expert panel, as well as learn about ways to get involved. In addition, a series of PSAs will run in select areas highlighting key child hunger issues and the text to donate program.

ConAgra Foods® is a longtime, committed partner of Feeding America and we are incredibly grateful for the ongoing dedication to fighting domestic child hunger,” said Vicki Escarra, President and CEO of Feeding America. “With one in four children across the nation struggling with hunger, we are in crisis right now. Child actors Joey King (Ramona and Beezus), Jadin Gould (The Forgotten) and Bryce Cass (Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?) expressed their distinctly different fashion personalities on the red carpet of the “Battle Los Angeles” premiere on March 8, 2011 at the Regency Mann Village Theatre in Los Angeles, CA.  All three children play roles in the action-packed hit film, starring Aaron Eckhart and Bridget Moynahan.  Jadin Gould was a red carpet stand-out in a beautiful, age-appropriate, tulle and lace adorned ivory dress. Cass opted for red carpet rocker-casual, as did many of his older male co-stars and Joey King was in a class by herself, pairing a playful pistachio ensemble, with black accessories and gray, high-top converse, reminiscent of a young Cyndi Lauper.

Below are pictures from the event, a trailer for the film, and behind the scenes video footage of the kids on their first day of shooting and the film’s wrap (also Bryce’s 12th Birthday) , shot by Bryce’s mother Terry.

Wouldn’t it be nice if you had one less thing to do while trying to get your kids out of the house tomorrow? Wouldn’t it be lovely to not hear a tiny voice squealing in frustration as they try (unsuccessfully) to get themselves dressed? Wouldn’t you love to see your child strut proudly out of their room, beaming with confidence? If you are staring at the screen, nodding in agreement, then EZ SOX are what you have been looking for!

These fabulous seamless training socks let children put on their socks with ease. Their double reinforced loops act as grips for tiny fingers, allowing your tot to pull up their socks solo. My 3 year old daughter, Shelby, thrives on being able to complete daily tasks independently – and I’m sure your child does, too. She was thrilled to be able to put her socks on herself, without mommy’s help. I love the sticky grip non-skid bottoms and Shelby loves the adorable animal face designs! Choose from solid colors or a fun face like ‘Jazz the Dog,’ ‘Fred the Frog,’ ‘Priscilla the Pig’ and more!  Eliminate the daily frustrations of getting your child dressed and give them the opportunity to learn how to dress themselves with EZ SOX today!

Whether you are running around the house trying to get your kids ready for school, a play date or their next big audition, EZ SOX will help make your life a bit easier. Don’t forget to leave a comment below for a chance to win a pair of EZ SOX for your little star:  tell us how EZ SOX would help your morning routine, or share a funny story about what it takes to get your kids ready and out the door.  Winner will be announced December 26, 2010. Good Luck!
