EXCLUSIVE: Disney Executive Producer IRENE “The Dray” DREAYER Reveals Top 5 Mistakes Child Actors Make!
Posted on 20. Dec, 2010 by Editor Tracy Bobbitt.
Hollywood Mom Blog is giving the invaluable gift of top notch“inside information” for our Hollywood Moms and Dads this holiday season!
Our friend, Irene “The Dray” Dreayer, Executive Producer of “The Suite Life on Deck” is revealing the Top 5 Mistakes she sees aspiring child actors make. Later this week, we will be sharing the Dray’s newest project, “The Dray Way” mentoring program for aspiring child and teen actors, in addition to an exclusive two-part interview with The Dray herself.
The Dray’s the Top 5 Child Actor No No’s:
1. The career some kids aspire to is not their dream…they are making someone else happy, i.e. the parents!
2. It’s great to aspire to have a career like Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, Raven-Symoné or Dylan and Cole Sprouse, but you have to carve out your own path and not mimic your idol’s career. Be your own type of performer. The key is to be true to yourself and be proud of who you are.
3. Being unprepared in auditions. Meaning, not understanding the character you are reading for, not listening in character and not taking direction. For example, when asked to do the scene a different way, some young actors don’t have the ability yet to do that. As a result, the actor unfortunately ends up doing the reading exactly the same way.
4. Don’t arrive at an audition sick…stay home!! Cough-Cough…a No-No!
5. If a young actor does have success and they’re not prepared for [success] and don’t understand what comes with being famous. For example dealing with Paparazzi, constant interruptions in any normal activity, too much exposure on Twitter, Facebook, etc. I say, keep your personal information to yourself and off these sites.
Catch up with HMB later this week for the first half of an incredible two-part interview with one of the biggest talents in town, Irene Dreayer. And Happy Holidays!

IN THE NEWS: Former “Little House on the Prairie” Child Star Calls Miley Cyrus Out on Salvia Scandal
Posted on 15. Dec, 2010 by Editor Tracy Bobbitt.
It’s a former child star showdown. In one corner we have former “Little House on the Prairie” child star, former SAG President, and Lifetime MOW regular, Melissa “Half-Pint” Gilbert and in the far corner, aka the smoking section, we have former “Hannah Montana” child star Miley “Half-Ounce” Cyrus. The two actresses seem to have so much in common: television child stars of their own hit shows, media darlings, braid-lovers – so what’s all the fuss about?
As many of you know, a few days after her 18th birthday celebration, Miley Cyrus was knowingly filmed by a friend smoking a bong filled with what was alledgedly salvia – a plant that causes LSD-like hallucinations when smoked, but for unknown reasons is legal in the state of California. You can watch the footage for yourself on TMZ so I won’t rehash the details here but it’s safe to say this footage is not likely to make it into the new series of family-friendly, celebrity FLIP video commercials.
In regards to the scandal, Melissa, the celebrity spokeswoman for The Partnership at Drugfree.org, (a nonprofit that helps parents prevent, intervene in, and find treatment for drug and alcohol use by their children), was quoted as telling AOL News, “How high do you have to be to let a friend film you? I think she wanted to get caught.”
In response to the statement that Miley was smoking Salvia and not Marijuana (as if that makes it somehow better), Gilbert retorted, “That’s bull—-! I think it was marijuana.”
Miley has not made a statement regarding this video footage or the uproar it’s caused and was photographed on the set of her film, “So Undercover,” in New Orleans yucking it up with her momager, Tish Cyrus.
Popager Billy Ray Cyrus on the other hand had this to say via his twitter account last Friday, “Sorry guys. I had no idea. Just saw this stuff for the first time myself. I’m so sad. There is much beyond my control right now.” As HMB reported last month, Billy Ray and Tish Cyrus are divorcing.
How has this news affected your kids? Are they even aware of the Cyrus salvia scandal?

World’s Most Famous Momager Popager Duo File for Divorce
Posted on 28. Oct, 2010 by Editor Tracy Bobbitt.
World famous Popager of Miley Cyrus, Billy Ray Cyrus, has filed for divorce from Miley’s Momager Tish Cyrus in the state of Tennessee citing the infamous irreconcilable differences. Insiders say there was not a third party involved and this decision has been a long time in the making.
Billy Ray and Tish Cyrus have issued the statement:
“As you can imagine, this is a very difficult time for our family. We are trying to work through some personal matters. We appreciate your thoughts and prayers.”
Billy Ray and Tish Cyrus have been married 17 years and both had been married previously. Billy has one child from a previous relationship, Tish has two kids, Trace and Brandi, from a previous marriage whom Billy Ray adopted as his own. Together they are the parents Miley Ray, 17; Braison, 16; and Noah, 10. Billy Ray is seeking joint custody.
Billy Ray split with first wife, Cindy Smith, in 1991 and married Tish (Leticia) Finley in 1992.
Between them they have 5 kids: 3 of them together including Miley Cyrus.

Variety’s 4th Annual Power of Youth Event Photos and Recap
Posted on 26. Oct, 2010 by Editor Tracy Bobbitt.
Below are photos from Variety’s Power of Youth Event. My immediate impression is that while many wonderful child and teen actors and actresses were in attendance Sunday, many high profile Disney and Nick Kids (Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, Miranda Cosgrove, Cole Sprouse, Dylan Sprouse, Miley Cyrus, Debbie Ryan, Emily Osment) were noticeably absent from the event, prime-time television child stars were few and far between (Nolan Gould, Rico Rodriguez, Atticus Shaver, Angus T. Jones) and child stars from feature films (Abigail Breslin, Chloe Moretz, Jonah Bobo, Noah Ringer, Josh Hutcherson, Emma Roberts, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Dakota and Elle Fanning) were no where to be found. Just an observation. What do you think of the turn out? Was it what you would have expected for such a high profile event?

Who are the Top Paid Child Stars of TV & What Do They Have in Common?
Posted on 12. May, 2010 by Editor Tracy Bobbitt.
The New York Post reports on the highest salaries of television child stars, and you may be surprised at who comes out of on top. At 16, CBS teen actor Angus T. Jones make $250,000, per episode of his show “Two and a Half Men,”and according to their new survey, he’s also the highest-paid child star working in television today.

The second-highest-paid child actor on television is Miranda Cosgrove, 16, who earns approximately $180,000 per episode of her Nickelodeon series iCarly. Whoa.

Jordan Bobbitt & #3 Selena Gomez - an HMB favorite!
Coming is third on the list is one of our HMB favorites, Selena Gomez, at $25,000 per episode of her Disney hit “The Wizards of Waverly Place.”
Here is the remainder of the top paid television child stars list:
4. Twin Brothers Dylan (not pictured) and Cole Sprouse, 17 of the “The Suite Life” franchise at $20,000 each, per episode.
5. Talented Keke Palmer, 16 of “True Jackson VP” makes $20,000 per episode.

#6 Miley with Momager Tish. Don't let the list fool you though - she rakes in the big bucks in a million other ways...
6. Miley Cyrus, 17, on Disney’s “Hannah Montana” makes $15,000 each episode.
7. Rico Rodriguez, 11 of the most hilarious “Modern Family” makes $15,000 each week.
8. Demi Lovato, 17, on Disney’s “Sonny With a Chance” comes in at $12,000 per show.
9. Victoria Justice, 17, of Nickelodeon’s “Victorious” earns $12,000 per show.
10. Atticus Shaffer, 11, of “The Middle” who HMB profiled recently brings home a deserved $12,000 for his comedic contributions to the hit show.
While reviewing the list, one fact is apparent – it pays to be funny. All of the kids on the top ten list are using their comedic skills on their top-rated comedy shows. There are several talented child actors on more serious programs like Parents, Brothers and Sisters, Big Love, Medium, Ghost Whisperer – and while talented, you don’t find any of these youngsters on the big bucks list. Lesson to learn: Sign your child actor up for an improv class pronto!
The other strikingly obvious commonality for me is that most if not all of the females on list are triple threats of stage, song and dance – not to mention they all resemble each other with olive skin, dark hair and an ethnic ambiguity that seems to be so “in” at casting calls these days. As for the top paid guys and with the exception of the Blonde Sprouse brothers; they’re all what I’d call quirky and very unique.
And of course the most obvious trait all these kids possess: Talent. Truckloads of it.

No Momager Should be Allowed to Look This Freaking Good
Posted on 02. Feb, 2010 by Editor Tracy Bobbitt.

Seriously no momager should be allowed to look as good, if not better than, her celebrity off spring – much less be expected to look this good. But Tish Cyrus rocks it with grammy chic even after giving birth to and raising 4 children for the last however many years. God bless her.

Video: Miley’s un-Disney like homage to Trailer Parks & Pole Dancing
Posted on 11. Aug, 2009 by Editor Tracy Bobbitt.
Walt Disney is surely turning in his frozen cryonic chamber grave this morning.
In a seeming effort not to be outdone by the naked elephant in the room (Vanessa Hudgens latest camera phone pics) Miley Cyrus’ performance at the Teen Choice Awards had her making her grand entrance via a trailer home and concluding with a make-shift pole dance atop a moving ice cream cart. Watch the clip below. We couldn’t make this stuff up.

Forbes Top 10 Teen Actors
Posted on 05. Jun, 2009 by Hollywood Mom.
Forbes recently put out their list of top 10 teen actors. I’d say their right on. These kids not only have talent, but they have “it.” All of them clearly love what they do and were born with natural abilities that with training, just light up the screen.
In order of box office pull, Forbes rated them in this order:
- Danielle Radcliffe, 19
- Miley Cyrus, 16
- Dakota Fanning, 15
- Abigail Breslin, 13
- Hayden Panetierre, 19
- Emma Watson, 19
- Freddie Highmore, 17
- Keke Palmer, 15
- Emma Roberts, 18
- Anton Yelchin, 20 (No longer a teen Forbes!)
A few of these names may not be as well known, but not for long! All of these teen actors have more than an ability to deliver lines; they have an apparent maturity and sense of self that works to their advantage in this business. With that ability comes a demand from not only their audience, but the studios that make their movies. I can’t say if all these kids really have that maturity factor in their day to day lives, but based on their early successes, their publicity interviews, tours and the projects on their calendars, they’re doing something right.

The Disney Audition Tape that Changed the World.
Posted on 08. Feb, 2009 by Editor Tracy Bobbitt.
It’s fascinating to watch this old footage of Miley Cyrus we discovered online the other day. Especially to see how radically she’s changed over such a relatively short period of time. Disney is truely a star-making machine. Miley was absolutely adorable, fresh and tom-boyish at this age; we completely understand why they hired her. Do you?
