CASTING CALL LOS ANGELES AREA: Parents of Children 3 Months to 4 Years Old with Acting/Modeling Careers
Posted on 01. Apr, 2011 by Editor Tracy Bobbitt.
CASTING FAMILIES THAT ARE VERY INVOLVED IN THEIR BABY’S ACTING AND MODELING CAREER
Major Cable Network is looking for fun and dynamic families in Los Angeles and nearby cities that go above and beyond to make sure their baby makes it in the industry. The series will document four families on their journies through life at home, auditions, callbacks and what it takes to land the gig.
We are hoping to show America that not all families in the industry are obsessive “stage parents.” If you have a child who is between the ages of 3 months and 4 years old that is in the industry please email me a recent photograph of your immediate family, contact information and a brief overview of your child’s success in the the industry thus far.
You can send all submissions to JesseTannenbaumCasting@gmail.com

IN THE NEWS: Former “Little House on the Prairie” Child Star Calls Miley Cyrus Out on Salvia Scandal
Posted on 15. Dec, 2010 by Editor Tracy Bobbitt.
It’s a former child star showdown. In one corner we have former “Little House on the Prairie” child star, former SAG President, and Lifetime MOW regular, Melissa “Half-Pint” Gilbert and in the far corner, aka the smoking section, we have former “Hannah Montana” child star Miley “Half-Ounce” Cyrus. The two actresses seem to have so much in common: television child stars of their own hit shows, media darlings, braid-lovers – so what’s all the fuss about?
As many of you know, a few days after her 18th birthday celebration, Miley Cyrus was knowingly filmed by a friend smoking a bong filled with what was alledgedly salvia – a plant that causes LSD-like hallucinations when smoked, but for unknown reasons is legal in the state of California. You can watch the footage for yourself on TMZ so I won’t rehash the details here but it’s safe to say this footage is not likely to make it into the new series of family-friendly, celebrity FLIP video commercials.
In regards to the scandal, Melissa, the celebrity spokeswoman for The Partnership at Drugfree.org, (a nonprofit that helps parents prevent, intervene in, and find treatment for drug and alcohol use by their children), was quoted as telling AOL News, “How high do you have to be to let a friend film you? I think she wanted to get caught.”
In response to the statement that Miley was smoking Salvia and not Marijuana (as if that makes it somehow better), Gilbert retorted, “That’s bull—-! I think it was marijuana.”
Miley has not made a statement regarding this video footage or the uproar it’s caused and was photographed on the set of her film, “So Undercover,” in New Orleans yucking it up with her momager, Tish Cyrus.
Popager Billy Ray Cyrus on the other hand had this to say via his twitter account last Friday, “Sorry guys. I had no idea. Just saw this stuff for the first time myself. I’m so sad. There is much beyond my control right now.” As HMB reported last month, Billy Ray and Tish Cyrus are divorcing.
How has this news affected your kids? Are they even aware of the Cyrus salvia scandal?

The Hollywood Life: Hollywood Mom Blog Makes the LA Times Film Section!
Posted on 05. Dec, 2010 by Editor Tracy Bobbitt.
As reported a couple of weeks ago, HMB covered and attended the premiere of “The Nutcracker in 3D.” Until last week, my strongest memories of the evening were of my wonderful HMB entourage who assisted in every way possible to make the coverage a success, Elle Fanning’s graciousness and incredible poise on the red carpet and the watchful eye of Fanning’s agent Cindy Osbrink, (rep of both Fanning sisters, Atticus Shaffer and Colin Ford among others) whose demeanor with her client was so protective and motherly that I actually mistook her for Elle’s mother Joy. Only when I reviewed my photos later in the evening did I realize I was talking to none other than the iconic Osbrink herself. Oops.
Now those three memories are in strong competition with this singular one: I was quoted for the advertising campaign which has appeared in the Los Angeles Times daily since last Wednesday. I’ll admit it has me on a Siskel and Ebert or Ebert and Roper kind of high (Two thumbs up!), an experience and honor I never desired but now that it’s arrived, is pretty cool. That’s it – just wanted to share another amazing adventure on this ride of being the Hollywood Mom and to thank all of you for joining me.

Child Star Max Records’ is Battling Retro Robots in “BLINKY”
Posted on 16. Nov, 2010 by Editor Tracy Bobbitt.
Young Actor Max Records has graduated from taming Wild Things to battling Robots!
Max Records, 13, made his feature film debut in Spike Jonze’s film, “Where the Wild Things Are,” with no prior acting experience. Most recently he played a young Mark Ruffalo in Rian Johnson’s “The Brothers Bloom.”
In his next film “Blinky,” directed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker/animator Ruairi Robinson, Records’ character receives a retro robot after much pleading (“All my friends have one!”), declaring that the ever-smiling machine will be his “new best friend.” From the sinister tone of the trailer below, it doesn’t seem likely they’ll be best friends forever. The independent project is scheduled to make rounds in film festivals but I’d rather see it sooner than later and in the local theater…please!
In related news, Max’ father/ popager, photographer Shawn Records, has created a series of photos, entitled “Owner of This World,” a compilation of photos of his son on the “Wild Things” set. This is what Shawn himself has to say about the photos:
“Photography, for me, is an act of paying attention, responding, and manipulating context. Ultimately, I photograph small things that hint at larger ideas – moments, objects, relationships, gestures – the details of everyday living that, when put into another context, take on weight. This approach has resulted in several different projects.
“Owner of This World is a series of photographs made during the four months that my son, Max Records, worked as an actor in Where the Wild Things Are, Spike Jonze’s film adaptation of the Maurice Sendak classic. Max was nine years old at the time, and neither he nor anyone in our family had been involved in the film industry before. Though the majority of these photographs were made behind the scenes, my goals were far more personal than objective. Beyond documenting Hollywood’s incongruities, I think of this series more as a manifestation of my own anxieties; a collection of both fears and reassurances, upon letting my son out into a world that’s beyond my control. In this particular image, (far left) for example… that may as well be me clutching the sides of the boat. The water may be only waist-deep, but if it’s murky, you can’t always see the bottom.”

Is it time for Jessica Simpson to Let Popager Joe Go?
Posted on 23. Oct, 2010 by Editor Tracy Bobbitt.
We felt this storm of “popager backlash” brewing months ago and now Popeaters’ Naughty but Nice is reporting that following Jessica Simpson‘s manager and dad, Joe Simpson, alledgedly kicking a group of singing U.S. combat veterans off his daughter’s PBS holiday special, Jessica has been under pressure from the masses to fire Joe and hire a “real” manager.
According to an Popeater’s unnamed insider: “Jess is really talented, it’s clear that what’s holding her career back is her father. Joe is impossible to work with and makes terrible decisions that poor Jessica has to put up with. Now, both music and movie people are telling her she needs to let him go.” HMB recently covered the not always successful trend of young performers keeping their parents on payroll even after they are no longer minors.
Joe allegedly didn’t approve of the troops’ wardrobe of commando pants and blazers, the same outfits they wore when they sang for General David Petraeus on the USS Intrepid.
Past incidents which have shown the popager in an unfavorable light include when Papa Joe scheduled and then canceled a meeting between Jessica and then President George W. Bush after deciding it wasn’t prudent for Jessica to attend a Republican fundraiser the night before she met with politicians of both parties to lobby on behalf of the saintly charitable organization Operation Smile. Another incident involved over his allegedly “over-negotiating” Jessica to point of her no longer being in the running as a new American Idol judge.
A friend reports to Popeater’s NBN that Jessica Simpson “just can’t find it in her heart to let him go. [She] knows how much Joe loves being a manager. His entire identity is about being her manager, plus he has made a lot of money from her at the same time.”
What do you think will happen? Is it time for Joe Simpson to resign from being Jessica’s Manager?

Rumormill: Popager Joe Simpson Blows Idol Deal for daughter Jessica Simpson, Paves the Way for Judge J. Lo
Posted on 04. Aug, 2010 by Editor Tracy Bobbitt.
“Here comes the Judge! Here comes the Judge!”
Jennifer Lopez has yet to officially announce that she’s the newest judge on “American Idol,” but according to the rumor mill she was offered this position after several legendary singers essentially said, “Thanks, but no thanks.”
According to Idol insiders “J.Lo was definitely not the first choice. In fact, she wasn’t even the second or third choice.” Before they approached Lopez, producers first asked Elton John and Barry Manilow to join the show. Both are world renown singer-songwriters who’ve mentored Idol contestants in prior seasons. Elton and Barry both declined.
Producers then began to scout celebrities whose careers were in flux and chose two musical artists who could benefit from the exposure of a national TV show as much as the Idol needed them: thus choices, Jessica Simpson and Jennifer Lopez.
According to inside sources, the job could have been Jessica Simpson’s were it not for her father and career manager aka Pop-ager, Joe Simpson. “This was definitely Jessica’s to lose and that’s exactly what her dad-manager did. Once it became clear it was going to be impossible to negotiate a deal with Papa Joe, J.Lo was snapped up. Convinced being on the show would relaunch her performing career, she accepted the new job right away.”
Rumors are also swirling that Aerosmith lead singer Steven Tyler is set to join the show. Randy Jackson will return as a judge and Ryan Seacrest is confirmed as host.

New NICK Show based on Papa Joe Simpson, Jessica & Ashlee Simpson-Wentz
Posted on 06. Feb, 2010 by Editor Tracy Bobbitt.
Joe Simpson, father and manager of performers Jessica and Ashlee Simpson, is developing a Nickelodeon comedy series loosely based on his real-life experience as a minister and psychologist raising two daughters in Texas. No mention of wife and mom Tina’s role, if any.
The as of yet untitled project revolves around one of the daughters who begins imitating her father and giving life advice to other kids in her school.
Emily Cutler (ABC’s “Carpoolers”) is writing the script with Simpson. Veteran tween and teen series producer Tommy Lynch is executive producing. Lynch has a long-standing relationship with Nickelodeon, having produced Nick series “South of Nowhere,” “Romeo!” and most recently “The Troop.”
Following his daughters’ success and his career turn as their manager, Joe Simpson has segued into producing Jessica and Ashlee’s TV projects and recently, the ABC drama series “Women’s Murder Club.” In defense of his managing the girls (reportedly for up to 20% of their earnings), US Magazine quoted Joe as saying: “It’s unfair to criticize me for what every manager does for his or her clients. And in this business, where people can quickly turn on you, who better than a parent to be working for his children?”
