No More Chances for Sonny; Teen Actor Demi Lovato Leaves her Disney Show!

No More Chances for Sonny; Teen Actor Demi Lovato Leaves her Disney Show!

Disney Star Demi Lovato, 18, who entered treatment for “physical and emotional issues” this past October,

has decided not to return to her starring television role on the Disney Channel series, “Sonny with a Chance.”

According to People Magazine Lovato states, “It made sense for me to go ahead and leave the show to focus on my music.
It’s kind of sad for me that a chapter of my life has ended but there couldn’t be a better time for me to move on.
I don’t think going back to Sonny would be healthy for my recovery. Being in front of a camera would make me nervous.”

The Disney Channel issued the statement: ”We respect Demi’s decision to focus fulltime on her music and not immediately return to her acting career.
She is a talented young woman and our hearts are with her as she continues to take action to improve her health and bounce back from adversity.”

As many HMB “casting call” readers know,
the series has been made over as a sketch comedy program called
“So Random!”
and will debut in June. Having watched the live taping of the show several times,
I think the decision to move on is the right one for Demi. A live studio audience,

even one filled primarily with children, is not always the friendliest crowd.
I recall a day of filming when one particularly obnoxious teen audience member was vocally favoring
co-star Tiffany Thornton (who plays Tawni Hart) to the point our group was
fairly certain Demi overheard. Ever the professional, Lovato continued on with her performance and later pulled off a
hilarious dialogue as her character “Sicky Vicky” although she herself was under the weather that day.

We at Hollywood Mom Blog wish Lovato all the success in the world and look forward to seeing how her career blossoms.
Don’t forget to watch the GMA and 20/20 television interview specials with Demi Lovato later this week.

Hold onto your headbands! For those of you who remember her from “Little Miss Sunshine,” (picture right) 15 year old Actress Abigail Breslin‘s new look may take you by surprise.  Miss Breslin debuted a decidedly more mature look replete with strawberry blonde locks and a fire engine red Marchesa gown at the 2011 Breast Cancer Research Foundation’s Hot Pink Party held at The Waldorf Astoria on April 14, 2011 in New York City.

US Magazine reports that Breslin went Blonde for a movie role.  Scott Peper, senior colorist at the Oscar Blandi Salon in NYC reveals the color change took almost four hours, commenting, “The color is a soft pale shade, not a bright gold shade like Lindsay Lohan. It looks natural and age-appropriate.”  Breslin reportedly loves her new do.

Abigail Breslin, now 14 years old, sports a goth look in black and white photos for Bullett Magazine this month, a far cry from the innocent, gap-toothed seven-year-old she we fell in love with in “Little Miss Sunshine.”

The teen star has become the “it girl” for all child roles (heir apparent to Dakota Fanning) since playing Olive in “Little Miss Sunshine,” a role which found her with an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress in 2007.

Her film roles since then have included playing niece to Catherine Zeta-Jones in “No Reservations,” as a child bravely seeking emancipation inMy Sister’s Keeper, and more recently the comedy-horror flick “Zombieland.”

She is set to show off her singing talents for the first time in the forthcoming drama “Janie Jones,” as a teenager who attempts to forge a relationship with her rock star father after her mother, a former groupie, abandons her.  The film, which co-stars Alessandro Nivola and Elisabeth Shue, recently premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, with Breslin receiving good reviews for her performance.

”Not that I think I’m a great singer or anything, but I do like to sing,” Breslin told Entertainment Weekly earlier this month. ”I’ve never really done it before — I’ve only really sung at my church Christmas party.”

Demi Lovato, 18-year-old Disney Star, told RadarOnline.com:  ”I think it’s important to just surround yourself with good people and to make sure you have the support system in your family.  A lot of the time those are situations when people aren’t saying no to those girls and I definitely have a mom who would slap me upside the head if I went crazy or something.”

Demi is determined to keep pushing her career forward, starting with the release of her third album in the US next spring. ”I’m really excited about it. I’m doing more of dance R&B mainstream music so I’m really excited.” She added “ I’m getting in on the creative side and creating TV shows and movies.”

Blake Lively’s Mom Is a Manager But She’s No Momager.

Blake Lively’s Mom Is a Manager But She’s No Momager.

Blake Lively, a 23-year-old actress best known as Upper East Side princess Serena Van Der Woodsen on the television hit Gossip Girl, is grateful to her Mother Elaine Lively but not for the typical reasons you might think. According to the British edition of OK Magazine, while Blake’s mommy is indeed a Hollywood manager, she has never asked to manage her own daughter’s career or attempted to use her child for personal or monetary gain. Unlike many other Hollywood Moms and Dads, Elaine has successfully avoided what we all know as the Momager Trap.

Blake expresses her gratitude that mom has kept business and family separate.  Elaine “stayed out [of my career].  All my siblings were in this business [sic] but she was like, ‘No, I don’t think business and family mix.’” Blake’s big break came in her junior year of highschool when she won a role in “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.”

“I think that’s so remarkable because so many mothers just love to get in and be a part of it and the financial benefits. They take a commission of your money, and I think you should be able to give them what you want rather than be obliged to pay your mother. It just seems really strange, like rent.”

Blake’s father Ernie Lively (Criminal Minds) and siblings (Eric Lively, Lori Lively, Jason Lively and Robyn Lively) are all actors. Blake’s parents encouraged all their children to follow in their footsteps, but Lively declined for many years until she was “forced” to go to her first audition in her late teens.

“Because my family was in the business, acting was the last thing I wanted to go into. I worked my whole life to get into university, then went to an audition in my junior year because my brother made me. And once I did it I realized I loved acting.”

my-fake-fianceA new television comedy aptly titled “Melissa & Joey,” starring former child stars Melissa Joan Hart and Joey Lawrence, received a 10-episode order from ABC Family. It will premiere in 2010. Hart originally gained fame starring in “Sabrina the Teenage Witch” from 1996 to 2003. More recently she’s better known as a photo staple “Hollywood Mom” in tabloids like People Magazine and Celebrity Baby Blog. Joey Lawrence stole America’s heart on “Brotherly Love” and “Half & Half,” before graduating to teen heart throb on “Blossom.”

Hart and Lawrence co-starred in the 2009 ABC Family movie “My Fake Fiancé,” (pictured) and network President Paul Lee said the new series was developed with them in mind. Both actors serve as executive producers on the project.

Hart will portray the grown-up former wild child of a political family who is now a local politician forced to care for her teenage niece and pre-adolescent nephew after her sister is jailed, while Lawrence portrays the family’s nanny. Good news for hopeful child actors this pilot season – children will soon be cast in the roles of Hart’s niece and nephew.
