IN THE NEWS: Former “Little House on the Prairie” Child Star Calls Miley Cyrus Out on Salvia Scandal

It’s a former child star showdown. In one corner we have former “Little House on the Prairie” child star, former SAG President, and Lifetime MOW regular, Melissa “Half-Pint” Gilbert and in the far corner, aka the smoking section, we have former “Hannah Montana” child star Miley “Half-Ounce” Cyrus.  The two actresses seem to have so much in common: television child stars of their own hit shows, media darlings, braid-lovers – so what’s all the fuss about?

As many of you know, a few days after her 18th birthday celebration, Miley Cyrus was knowingly filmed by a friend smoking a bong filled with what was alledgedly salvia – a plant that causes LSD-like hallucinations when smoked, but for unknown reasons is legal in the state of California.  You can watch the footage for yourself on TMZ so I won’t rehash the details here but it’s safe to say this footage is not likely to make it into the new series of family-friendly, celebrity FLIP video commercials.

In regards to the scandal, Melissa, the celebrity spokeswoman for The Partnership at Drugfree.org, (a nonprofit that helps parents prevent, intervene in, and find treatment for drug and alcohol use by their children), was quoted as telling AOL News, “How high do you have to be to let a friend film you? I think she wanted to get caught.”

In response to the statement that Miley was smoking Salvia and not Marijuana (as if that makes it somehow better), Gilbert retorted, “That’s bull—-!  I think it was marijuana.”

Miley has not made a statement regarding this video footage or the uproar it’s caused and was photographed on the set of her film, “So Undercover,” in New Orleans yucking it up with her momager, Tish Cyrus.

Popager Billy Ray Cyrus on the other hand had this to say via his twitter account last Friday, “Sorry guys. I had no idea. Just saw this stuff for the first time myself. I’m so sad. There is much beyond my control right now.”  As HMB reported last month, Billy Ray and Tish Cyrus are divorcing.

Miley Cyrus, Turns 18 Today! Technically, No Longer a Child Star.

Well, it was fun while it lasted!  Miley Cyrus, the star of the huge television commercial success “Hannah Montana,” is now officially an adult, turning 18 years old today, November 23, 2010.  For better or worse, I can’t recall another television child actor in the last decade who has penetrated pop culture and the public consciousness more so than Miley Cyrus.

On Sunday at the American Music Awards, seemingly unhindered by her parents recent separation, Miley told Access Hollywood when asked about her birthday plans,“I’m going out dancing later — we rented out a space so all my friends can come.  Me and my mom actually have choreography for the night later — everyone loves when we dance in unison.”

She went on to say that she and Momager Tish Cyrus are known for playing Xbox 360’s dance video game, Kinect. “My mom, she beats me at that game!” Miley said. “She had 600,000 points yesterday, I had 300,000. She is such a good dancer — she really gets it.”

Miley: “There’s one [move] where you do like, the fist pump. You ‘Jersey Shore’ it for a second!  We got a bunch of moves going on. Everyone goes wild when me and my mom have choreography, so it’s going to be good.

In addition to Miley’s Momager Dance Routine, the now 18 year old  says that the entire month of November is a birthday celebration for her.  “I have a birthday month,” Miley tells Access Hollywood. “I do the whole month of November. Thanksgiving, cake – [it’s] all about me on Thanksgiving!”

Guests at her birthday celebration after the AMA’s on Sunday were Demi Moore, Rumer Willis, John Mayer, Kelly Osbourne, Kyle Massey and Ke$ha.

No Momager Should be Allowed to Look This Freaking Good

Seriously no momager should be allowed to look as good, if not better than, her celebrity off spring – much less be expected to look this good. But Tish Cyrus rocks it with grammy chic even after giving birth to and raising 4 children for the last however many years.  God bless her.
