The Talent Managers Association Announces 2012 Heller Award Winners

TALENT MANAGERS ASSOCIATION CELEBRATES ITS FINEST AND CONGRATULATES THE WINNERS OF THE 11TH ANNUAL HELLER AWARDS, 2012

“Manager of the Year” goes to Jake Azhar of Hollywood Management

Clint Eastwood’s longtime rep, Leonard Hirshan, honored with “Lifetime Achievement in Management” Award

In partnership with the Weingart Center AssociationThe Talent Managers Association (TMA) congratulates all of the winners of this year’s Heller Awards.
The awards ceremony, hosted by actor and comedian Guy Torry, which took place Tuesday, October 2, 2012, at the Universal Sheraton’s Starlight Ballroom, included awards to the following talent agents and casting directors:

Commercial Casting Director: Francene Selkirk (Shooting From The Hip Casting)

Adult Theatrical Agent: Jay Schachter (Mavrick Artists Agency)
Adult Commercial Agent: Hugh Leon (Coast to Coast Talent Group)
Youth Theatrical Agent: Meredith Fine (Coast to Coast Talent Group)
Youth Commercial Agent: Jeremy Apody (Abrams Artists Agency)
Associate Casting Director: Eric Souliere (Ulrich/Dawson/Kritzer Casting)

President Phil Brock presented a special award to Gary Marsh, President of Breakdown Services, for their continued support of not only the TMA, but the Heller Awards as a Diamond Sponsor.

Jake Azhar of Hollywood Management Company was presented with the award for “Manager of the Year”. Azhar has been a member of the TMA since 2002, and is currently the Recording Secretary on the TMA Board, as well as the National Outreach Chairman. His clients include actors at various levels of experience, directors, singers, bands, composers and music producers, including gold record producing composers and producers Kenneth Lehman and Thomas Jones. He is often invited to teach workshops and judge renowned acting competitions across the United States and around the world in countries such as England, Ireland, Germany, Denmark and Iceland.

The Seymour Heller Award for “Lifetime Achievement in Management” was given to Leonard Hirshan, the longtime exclusive representative for Clint Eastwood. His relationship with Eastwood has spanned 50 years. Hirshan started as an agent at William Morris in the 1950s and in 2004 left to open his own management company. His clients have included Sophia Loren, Angela Lansbury and Stu Rosenberg, as well as Eastwood.

The gift bags for the nominees featured products and services from Los Angeles magazine, Jan Marini Skin Research, Onesta Hair Care, Sorme Cosmetics, Cult Nails, Taste of Paste catering, Bittersweet Treats, Chocolate Sundaes, Raynor and Associates, Christopher Styles Barber Spa, new albums from Vassy and Valarie Pettiford, and Worn Free.

This year’s event also featured a silent auction, which benefitted the Weingart Center Association, a Los Angeles organization that provides educational, health and rehabilitation resources to help end the plight of homelessness. Among the sponsors for the silent auction were Sue Wong Couture, Photographers Gallery, Jewels by Alex, Jan Marini Skin Research, celebrity chef Pace Webb, visual artist Zox, Esquire Magazine, NStyle Limo, Celebrity Helicopters, LaLune Palace, Under Armour and Variety Insight.

Entertainment for the evening was provided by DJ Danno, who spun an eclectic mix of music for the cocktail hour. Australian vocalist Vassy performed a live rendition of “We Are Young” with her dancers at the start of dinner. The youth dance crew, 8 Flavahz, performed a dance number at the beginning of the awards ceremony. At the end of the evening, the video for Vassy’s “Could This Be Love” was played.
