Saturday morning Hollywood Mom Blog was invited to a special media screening of Disney’s BIG HERO 6 at the El Capitan in Hollywood. The film hits theaters in 3D on Nov. 7, 2014!

From Walt Disney Animation Studios, the team behind “Frozen” and “Wreck-It Ralph,” comes “Big Hero 6,” an action-packed comedy-adventure about the special bond that develops between Baymax (voice of Scott Adsit), a plus-sized inflatable robot, and prodigy Hiro Hamada (voice of Ryan Potter).

A devastating event befalls the city of San Fransokyo, catapulting Hiro into the midst of danger.  He turns to Baymax and his best friends adrenaline junkie GoGo Tomago (voice of Jamie Chung), neatnik Wasabi (voice of Damon Wayans Jr.), chemistry whiz Honey Lemon (voice of Genesis Rodriguez) and fanboy Fred (voice of T.J. Miller). Determined to uncover the mystery behind recent events, Hiro transforms his friends into a band of high-tech heroes called “Big Hero 6.”

Inspired by the Marvel comics of the same name, and featuring breathtaking action with all the heart and humor audiences expect from Walt Disney Animation Studios, “Big Hero 6” is directed by Don Hall (“Winnie the Pooh”) and Chris Williams (“Bolt”), and produced by Roy Conli (“Tangled”).

Hollywood Mom Suzette Troche Stapp and her daughter, actress Merit Leighton (Sofia the First), we’re at the El Capitan to give us the inside scoop on Marvel’s first animated feature!

Suzette & Merit say:

What looks like a giant marshmallow on the Big Hero 6 movie poster, is so much more! The movie poster is a bit misleading, prepare yourselves for a film that is big on heart and packed with action!

The backdrop for this hi-tech journey is San Fransokyo a super cool hybrid of Japan and San Franciso. Child prodigy Hiro truly becomes a hero, but not without a lot of lessons to learn along the way. The story teaches children what’s important in life, which is nice to see.  Interestingly there are Anime references in the film to Angelic Lair and other Manga, making it a nice cross-cultural movie.

The main characters are all unique, quirky, and super smart. These genius level youth are self-driven to achieve amazing technological advances. So thrilled for Disney to be showing both male and female characters that are obsessed with math and science on the big screen!  Beautiful imagery and incredible action scenes are balanced by emotional points that can bring you to tears; the animation and music combined are quite moving.

Get ready to fall in love with the characters in Big Hero 6 but especially Baymax – you just want to hug him!
