Child Star Joey King, 11, is off to the Emerald City(or Pontiac, Michigan to be precise) having landed the coveted role of China Girl in Disney’s “Oz: The Great and Powerful,” according to Variety. The Sam Raimi-directed prequel to “The Wizard of Oz” stars James Franco, Rachel Weisz, Mila Kunis and Michelle Williams. China Girl, a life like porcelain doll, is taken in by Oz after her family is killed by an evil witch (Weisz). The film will shoot entirely on stage in Raimi’s home state of Michigan beginning this summer.
You may recall Joey King from last years kids hit “Ramona and Beezus” and more recently “Battle: Los Angeles.” She’s also recently was cast in Chris Nolan’s “The Dark Knight Rises” and the upcoming TV series “Bent.” She will next appear onscreen in this summer’s “Crazy, Stupid, Love,” starring Steve Carrel, Emma Stone, Ryan Gosling, Julianne Moore and Jonah Bobo (coincidentally the second cousin of OZ helmer Sam Raimi).
